MITRE helps its sponsors acquire large, complex systems that are technically feasible and cost-effective. MITRE’s experts in this area estimate cost and schedule resources for system development, production, operations, and maintenance; develop acquisition strategies and assist with source selection; perform cost, price, and technical analyses for contract negotiations; and perform financial analyses and identify process reengineering opportunities.
MITRE’s Center for Acquisition and Systems Analysis provides the entire corporation with economic, operational, and systems acquisition analyses. In addition, our Systems Engineering Process Office provides resources and collects “best practices” to share throughout the company.
Current work programs:
- Developed a Web-based “Program Management Toolkit” to guide program managers through risk assessment and management.
- Developing metrics to record the performance of the National Airspace System (NAS); providing daily NAS “report cards” to senior Federal Aviation Administration managers.
- Delivered life cycle models tailored to a unique maintenance strategy and risk management tools built around the acquisition strategy and technical characteristics of a sponsor’s program.
- Developed a Navy/Marine Corps Intranet risk management plan.
- Developing case studies and alternatives for the evolution of air traffic management system infrastructure and communication, navigation, and surveillance systems.
- Helping the Coast Guard plan to modernize and replace ships, aircraft, and command and control systems.
