NCMA offers three professional certifications (Certified Federal/Commercial/Professional Contracts Manager), and many folks find it worthwhile to prepare for and attain one or more of these professional distinctions. I've personally found preparing for the CPCM exam to be the most worthwhile professional development experience I've ever had, and I believe others would benefit from this too. We've managed to procure some of the study guides for the exams, and a few other materials, and hope to use these to conduct our chapter study sessions.
For the Spring/Summer 2008, we plan to prepare for the Commercial module, which is required for both the CCCM and CPCM certifications. If you're interested in joining our study group, please contact me. We are looking for three additional persons! I expect we'll be meeting every week for 2 hours or so (perhaps 4-6 p.m.) but that will depend on the availability of those attending. After I hear from a few more folks (minimum of 6 required), I'll schedule the first "get organized" meeting so we can put together a test preparation schedule. Although the purpose of the group will be to prepare for the exams, you don't have to take the exam to attend. Let's face it, almost all of us should spend more time learning about our profession (and less time with our noses attached to the computer screen). Please let me know of your interest. Thank you.
